Submission Guidelines
Entry Form
Submitted plays must explore the theme of “Imagination and the Human Condition.”
- One-act plays are eligible. Plays should have a running time of under 70 minutes.
- All entries must be postmarked on or before January 14, 2012. One paper copy of the script is required, with the entry form and all attachments. Scripts can be dropped off at the Campus Theatre M-F 9-5 or mailed to Denton Community Theatre at The Campus Theatre, 214 W. Hickory St., Denton, TX 76201.
- All entries must be accompanied by a submission fee of $25.
- All entries must be accompanied by an entry form.
- If the playwright wishes to submit multiple scripts, each entry must be accompanied by a separate $25 fee and entry form.
- All entries must be in English.
- Winners will be contacted by April 1, 2012. Winners will be posted on the DCT website on or after this date.
- Winners are expected to attend the DCT Method and Madness Playwriting Festival May 28-June 2, 2012 at their own expense.
- Except for the entry form, author(s) must not be identified anywhere on the script, including the cover page, or associated with page numbers within the script.
- Plays that have had a reading or workshop are eligible. Plays that have been published, reviewed or that have had (or are committed to) a professional production prior to the submission deadline are not eligible.
- Plays or theatre pieces incorporating multi-media are eligible, as is material presented in a new form or not entirely script-based. To enable adequate evaluation in these cases, authors must submit a detailed artistic statement that describes such elements in a clear and understandable manner. Those working with/in multi-media/new forms must also submit samples of the visual/aural interpretation of the piece. If such a piece is selected as a winner, all extra production expenses beyond the staged reading must be borne by the playwright.
- Musicals are eligible. A score/CD is strongly encouraged.
- Author(s) must have permission to adapt/include a previously published work, and a written statement of permission must be included.
- Scripts will not be returned except with enclosure of a self-addressed, stamped envelope of sufficient size.
- Denton Community Theatre retains the right to produce a staged reading of the winning scripts, to use the title and playwright’s name in publicity and programs, to videotape the staged reading, and to publish the script as part of an anthology of the festival.
- The playwright retains all other rights to produce and publish.
- Any future production of a winning play must give the following credit:
“________________________________ was a winner of the 2012 Denton Community Theatre Method and Madness Playwriting Festival, celebrating Imagination and the Human Condition.”
